FireRef (Found it) GCKGY6 - Never Forget (2/1) by RickyB
This was part of a short cache run in between dropping off and picking up a fellow cacher for summer school. I figured I'd take advantage of being on the West side and pick up some of the ones I haven't done locally.
This was the second time I attempted to do this cache - I had tried before but was unable to figure out the first clue. I can't remember why. I do remember some confusion, as mentioned in some of the other logs, because of the whole swing thing. It does appear that the cache was placed with the current number of swings up - which is missing one. I won't say how many so it doesn't mess with figuring things out. The stages were in good shape and it was a nice cache to do.
Thanks for bringing me here. I have been a volunteer fireman for 19 years, and remember when the firefighter this cache was named after died. I also remember learning why firefighters shouldn't wear turnout gear in boats - I got tossed into a porta-pond in my gear as a joke, floated for about 30 seconds, and then sunk like a stone. I had to use my arms on the bottom to keep my head up and it was only like 3 feet of water. They had to drain the pond for me to get out, and even then, it was extremely difficult to stand up - it's like wearing a completely soaked snowsuit. Just thought I'd relate that story!

I remember coming and looking for this one before - I don't remember if I actually tried to find it, or just came into the area and decided to try again some other time - I have never been big on multis, but I figured I was trying to clean up some caches in the area, so I did this one. It was a lot simpler than I thought. Thanks for bringing me here and putting this one out!

I didn't get the name of this one until I typed up this log - haha - just my kind of joke, as anyone that knows me or had me in class would attest to. Thanks for bringing me here - just the kind of cache to up the numbers when I'm looking for some extra numbers. Thanks!

This was a quick find - found it almost as soon as I pulled up - I like these to get the numbers up in a hurry. Thanks for putting this out - I need to visit one of these places with my vehicle sometime soon here.

I went and did this one before, but wasn't able to find it then. No luck this time either, and I managed to fall once down the hill to the backside of the structure here. I read through the previous logs, and got some ideas, but none of them panned out. I'll have to come back sometime later. Hint?

This was a good place to stop, because of the porta-potty that was there. I was a little worried because a couple of muggles were hanging out in the parking lot, but they left before I got back, and didn't say anything. This was a quick find once I got in the woods - instead of looking for a path, I made my own (sort of...it closed behind me), and when I found the cache, I realized I could have come out much easier. Thanks for putting this out and bringing me here!

I had looked for this one before, with no luck. I reread the logs, and decided to spend some time widening my search a little, based on what I saw in the logs, and lo-and-behold, there it was! The cache is wet - it needs to be dried out - probably got wet with the rain a week ago or so. Also had to contend with a few spiders. Thanks for bringing me here for another time - I think I got all of them that are in the park, except for the nearby baseball field one, which wasn't there. Thanks!

Because I was bored out of my mind, I decided to go out and spend some time picking up some caches I hadn't done East of my house. This was one of several on a 3 hour run, mostly in the dark - didn't work out so well, because I believe I missed some easy ones because of that, but it was fun.
This was my first stop on that run. It was a pretty quick find - I always wondered what these things were here for - just for metering something, or some other purpose. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting this one out!

This was a quick easy find (which I put in my notes to myself as qef) - I also used another abbreviation, but didn't put that in here because it would clearly give away the cache. Thanks for bringing me here and adding to my numbers!

I hunted for this one for about 15 minutes, but Micros in the woods are tough. I was up and down the side of this area, almost in the water at times (thankfully I didn't fall in) - but didn't have any luck. There are a million good hiding places here, but the ones I checked just didn't turn up anything. I'll have to do this one in the daylight - probably find it in two seconds if I do. Thanks for bringing me here!

Yet another one of these nice easy micros that I could have found probably in 10 seconds in the daylight, but spent 15 minutes in the dark with a really good flashlight, and had no luck whatsoever. Thanks for bringing me here, even if I didn't get the cache. I was a little worried, because I was in the park close to closing time, but it worked out ok in the end. I'll be back!

I spent about 10 minutes on this one, mainly because there was a gap between the first place and last place I looked, with a bunch of places the cache wasn't in between. I guess you always find it in the last place you look, if you find it at all. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting all of these caches out!

This was a weird one, because when I stopped to look for it, someone came around the corner like 30 seconds later doing about 5mph, but revving his engine like he was going 50. I found the cache, returned it to its hiding spot, and went on my way. I remember this road (Villa Sites) from a number of years back, because of a story a friend told me about this road... I'll leave that one up to your imagination - haha. Thanks for bringing me here!

I didn't quiet understand the meaning behind this cache, because the name doesn't make sense. I did remember being in this area at least once before, because I was on the call for the FD that Mike Crotty was killed at the nearby Port Erie Plastics fire. Thanks for bringing me back into this area, and for putting this cache out. Everything was in good shape.

This one was kind of funny - I parked at the wrong end of the ... device which contained the cache. When I got out, I stepped down probably an extra foot and a half because there was a ditch there that I didn't notice when I parked. I went to where the cache was, and seemed to be dodging cars the entire time. It was a quick find, then I signed the log, then I was on my way. I even got to navigate the ditch a second time to get back into my car! Thanks for bringing me here and for putting this one out!

This was the last one I did on this run. I stopped at the little building, expecting to have to hunt for a while, but it only took a minute or two to come up with the cache easily. I love these "Hidden in plain sight" containers. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting this one out. Time to go home and get something to eat.
