Geocaching logs from 6-26-09

FireRef (Found it) GC1R1R8 - Tennis Anyone? (1/1.5) by conneautcachers
I went on a cache run today to try to get to 1600, which I did, and try out caching on my scooter (Honda Elite 80cc) - managed to break part of the scooter (the air filter box fell off, rubbed against my rear tire for probably 10-15 miles before I noticed it, then I removed it completely for the 50 mile or so ride home). Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

I stopped to find this one on my way through the area on my way to Ashtabula to start the run. It was a quick find, and shares most of a name with one of my other caches. I had a cache in Allegany State Park in New York for several years called "Tennis Anyone? How about baseball?" because it was near courts/fields for those sports. Thanks for bringing me here, and helping me get to 1600!

FireRef (Found it) GC1G904 - Captain Steel's North Pirate Harbor (1/1.5) by The O'Hara Cache Crew

This was #1590. Thanks for putting this one out. I felt a little weird looking for it because the neighbor was riding around on his lawnmower, and I didn't want to look suspicious. The other recent logs helped with the find because I followed the hint and it wasn't quite right - the owner might want to change that. Thanks for the cache!

FireRef (Found it) GC1R51H - Who's On First? (1/1) by conneautcachers

This was #1591. Thanks for bringing me here. I went around and around looking for this one, because of the clue, but once I read a few previous logs, I made the find right away. I took my little scooter past the closed gate and was a little worried when a truck pulled in to the outer lot while I was back there (I stayed on the roads), but he left without any contact. Thanks for bringing me here!

Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

This was #1591. Thanks for bringing me here. I looked in about 10 different places before I saw the container (considering the size, I don't know how I missed it the first 9 times!), and then had trouble getting it out of its hiding place. Everything is in good shape. I was actually coming here out of order, because the Gates of Hell had a gator full of workers stop right next to it and start doing some landscaping. TFTC! Back to the cemetery...

#1592. This was a quick and easy find - I was going to try for the Gates of Hell again, as I did about 15 minutes back, but there were still cemetery workers sitting around there doing some landscaping. This was a quick find however. Thanks for bringing me here - now, off to try for Gates of Hell for the Third time!

FireRef (Didn`t find it) GC1R71D - The Gates of Hell (1.5/1.5) by boxerowners

Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

I had tried for this one several times earlier today, and every time, there were workers nearby. I wonder if they found and removed the cache. I searched for about 15 minutes, and found what looked like a perfect spot, but it wasn't there. I see why the cache was named this - seems like someone from the cemetery could have painted over the wording on the doors to the building out of respect...maybe they will sometime. Thanks for bringing me here, even if I only got one of the two caches that were available.

FireRef (Found it) GC1R71N - Get the Low down (1.5/1.5) by boxerowners
I went on a cache run today to try to get to 1600, which I did, and try out caching on my scooter (Honda Elite 80cc) - managed to break part of the scooter (the air filter box fell off, rubbed against my rear tire for probably 10-15 miles before I noticed it, then I removed it completely for the 50 mile or so ride home). Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

#1593. This was a quick find for me, when I read the hint, and for a cacher, it was obvious. Thanks for bringing me here. It was a good place to add a smiley to the total and take a break from the long rides which I have been doing today.

FireRef (Found it) GC1G8PE - Good in the neighborhood. (1.5/1) by 16ggst

#1594. This took a little longer than I thought, considering the kind of hide it is. Once I read the hint, I was sure I was in the right place, but I was on my second place to hunt before I read the hint and went back to the first one. Thanks for helping me get to #1600 - some people have problems with these kinds of caches, but I'm happy with pretty much any one I can find!

I was surprised that I couldn't find this one. First, it seemed like an obvious common type, but it wasn't there. Then I tried the other hardware nearby, and had no luck on, under, or around any of those. Hopefully it is still there, and I just missed it. Oh well - on to the next cache!

#1595. Wow - I couldn't believe how much work it took to get here - 2/10 of a mile of 10' tall grass that was growing like (and the diameter of) corn, a 3/10 of a mile swamp with water between ankle and calf deep, and a mess of mayflies all over the place that couldn't find anywhere better to land than on me. Haha - well, that combines the worst of the last couple of weeks of caching into one story. Thanks for giving me another smiley on my quest to get to 1600 today!

FireRef (Found it) GC1K3YP - Wholly G'rails of US Covered Bridges (1.5/1.5) by barb111

Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

#1596 - Wow! That is one cool bridge! I couldn't believe it, and even though I didn't need to go that way, after finding the cache, I had to take a trip or two through it. It was so cool to go through it and smell the timber as I drove through. Thanks for bringing me here!

FireRef (Found it) GCXZ9P - Myrtle (1.5/1.5) by thunkfixer

Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

#1597. Thanks for bringing me here. The cache was a little damp and could probably use a new container around it as the bag was basically worthless. Thanks for adding another smiley to my total and helping me to get to #1600!

Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

#1598 - Almost there! For some reason, I think I was on this road before and found another cache here, but maybe it was just similar to this - the brick road was really cool to drive on. Thanks for bringing me here, and helping me get to #1600!

Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

#1599 - almost there! Wow, that was one knotty pine. It had lots of possible hiding spots, but I managed to find the right one. The bag around it is in too bad of shape to make it worthwhile, but the cache itself was in good shape. Thanks for bringing me here and helping me to get to #1600 today!

Dang! This would have been my #1600, if I had been able to find it! I spent about 20 minutes looking on both sides of the trail (having no clue which side starboard was and not wanting to take the time to search online for it), and found not one stump in sight within 10-15 feet of the trail. One side was a lot clearer than the other, and the less clear side kept sending me out with vines attached to my shoes every time I left, but I still had no luck. Thanks for bringing me here, even if I didn't have any luck finding the cache. I did notice after this one that there was something weird with the back end of my scooter - I think the tail lights were damaged by the swing on my porch where I park it. Oh well - on to get some oil (because I also noticed that was a little low), and then to find #1600! Sorry it couldn't have been your cache!

This was it - #1600! Woo hoo! Took a little walking to get to it, but that's ok - I don't mind that. Also looked in the wrong place for a while, but managed to check the GPS after not too long and realized I was on the wrong side of the trail. Thanks for helping me get to 1600 - you helped before when I found a cache near a dead animal and you let me claim it even though I couldn't get to it - and I think I ran into you one time on the trail. Thanks again!

#1601 - Not the first place I looked, but when I looked around, considering the name of the cache, it was obvious where it had to be. This was a cool cemetery. Thanks for bringing me here and helping me on my way to #2000 - I'm hoping for this summer if possible.

FireRef (Found it) GC1BB3K - Botany 101 (1.5/1.5) by manna farms

#1602. I decided this one had close enough parking for me to walk to - and the funny thing was, I was texting while I was walking, and almost overshot the cache - I guess I didn't realize how fast I walked. Thanks for bringing me here and showing me this trail!

FireRef (Found it) GCXERD - Flat Tire (1.5/1.5) by Goldsnoop-PA
I went on a cache run today to try to get to 1600, which I did, and try out caching on my scooter (Honda Elite 80cc) - managed to break part of the scooter (the air filter box fell off, rubbed against my rear tire for probably 10-15 miles before I noticed it, then I removed it completely for the 50 mile or so ride home). Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

#1603. This one had a funny approach. When I went back to the parking area, there was an open dirt road running parallel to the trail. I decided to chance it with my scooter, and managed to have no trouble driving to within about 100 feet of the cache. I walked over, claimed it, and hoped that the trail would lead me to a few more - no such luck. It dead ended (at a pond!!) and the next road. Thanks for bringing me here. I expected to spend a while, considering the placer, but managed to make the find quickly. Thanks for all you to to keep caches available for all of us! I'll get vertical challenge yet!!

FireRef (Found it) GC1DFWE - The Main Gate (1/1.5) by Beaucachers
I went on a cache run today to try to get to 1600, which I did, and try out caching on my scooter (Honda Elite 80cc) - managed to break part of the scooter (the air filter box fell off, rubbed against my rear tire for probably 10-15 miles before I noticed it, then I removed it completely for the 50 mile or so ride home). Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.

When I pulled into the apron for the entrance, I noticed a rubbing noise coming from my rear end. (the bike, not me... haha). I checked it out and found that the box that houses the air filter was hanging down, with some screws obviously missing, and had been rubbing against my rear tire for a while - to the point there was a big hole in the box where it rubbed. I went and claimed the cache (obvious - well stocked - definitely worth the trip here!), and then came back to figure out what to do with my bike. I tucked the air filter box up inside best I could, and decided to call it a day and head home, as I had a nearly 2 hour ride without going on the highways (my scooter only goes 45 average - rough for interstates so I stay off). About 3 miles from here, the box was hanging out of the bike, so I just removed it and spent the rest of the trip with it between my feet on the running deck of the scooter. Got home with no further problems (except for having to get the bike worked on) - thanks for bringing me here - I hope to finish the run I set up sometime in the next couple of days, probably using my SUV.
