FireRef (Found it) GC10ZWV - Smoke_House Cache (1.5/1) by mbavas
This was 1/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr. Insanity, and the younger brother of another cacher went to pick up a bunch of AGT caches. We got a late start on the day, and ended up being out until 4:30am retrieving them, got soaked in the process, but had a great time and decided to check out some of the different sights in the region, as well as use up a box of pixie sticks and half a bag of Willie Wonka candy. It was a trip!
We started at this one on the way down to get to the AGT Caches because I had been here a couple of times now, and managed to find this one myself, with four of us searching. I'll post a needs maintenance log, but it was coming apart - I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been, even though I've seen this type before. Thanks for bringing me here. We did run into the nice muggle upstairs, and 2 workers from the store who said they would let the owner know if they saw him, which they regularly did. Thanks for the cache!

The glue on the cache container is coming apart and making it rather obvious - good container, just needs a little work.

This was 2/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr.
This was a quick stop while it was raining - only took a minute to locate the cache, but only two of us were searching - the other two cachers in the group were checking out and playing with a small cat that was in the area while the others in our group were taking care of the cache. This looks like a cool place to come back to in the fall when the maze is made. I am allergic to cats so I didn't really make friends with it, but it definitely made friends with the other members of our group. Thanks for bringing us here and putting out the cache!

This was 3/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr.
I got out of the car, assuming this was going to be a quick, easy find, and spent a few minutes looking. Once they realized that I wasn't coming back, the group came over to help - and we ended up with BVFDJR moving a large part of a tree that I don't believe belongs there, with the younger brother of the other cacher finding it. He made several of the finds today, and this is only his second time out with us. Thanks for bringing us here and for putting out the cache!

It was a trip!
We stopped for this one, and after a minute or so, and reading the clue, we had no trouble finding it. Dr. Insanity actually made the find. I always thought these springs were cool, but it doesn't make sense that they just leave them and post them as unsafe or unmonitored - why wouldn't you just make them unavailable then? Oh well. Thanks for bringing us here and putting the cache out.

Thanks for bringing us here - we found it after a little searching around - the hint wasn't that helpful. The younger brother found the cache, but BVFDJR said, as he always does, that he saw it first - usually he did and is waiting for the rest of us to be able to find it. The cache was in good shape and well hidden in its space - the younger brother took a little longer than normal hiding it. Also, BVFDJR picked up a geogem from a previous cache we were at a few days back, and had it with him without logging it - he dropped it in this cache, so if the next person who reads this can make sure to pick it up from the cache it is listed in, drop it in this one, and then take it wherever so the mileage stays legit, I'd appreciate it (and so would the owner, probably) - I would have done that but I forgot to get the tracking number before we left. Thanks for the cache!

Thanks for bringing us here - when we pulled over to get the cache, and I got out of the vehicle, a couple got out of their vehicle in front of the house and asked if we needed anything - I said we were geocachers, and they immediately started chatting with us, as they were the owners of the house and the cache. We found what we needed to, signed the log, they checked out my Colorado GPS, and we headed on our ways after saying goodbye. Thanks for putting this cache out and nice chatting with you!

The younger brother and I immediately went to find this one, based on the clue, and we went through the trees looking for it. It has just previously rained, so both of us got a little wet, him more than me because he actually retrieved the cache. When he was putting it back, Dr. Insanity decided to have some fun, and shook the tree while he was under it, soaking him. He wasn't too happy, but all of us brought changes of clothes because we knew we were going to get wet today. Thanks for bringing us here and putting out this cache!

FireRef (Found it) GC1FFYW - Firewood cache (1/1) by DevinC
This was 8/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr. Insanity, and the younger brother of another cacher (who we'll call B) went to pick up a bunch of AGT caches. We got a late start on the day, and ended up being out until 4:30am retrieving them, got soaked in the process, but had a great time and decided to check out some of the different sights in the region, as well as use up a box of pixie sticks and half a bag of Willie Wonka candy. It was a trip!
This one was funny - B spotted this cache very quickly, but while leaning over the fence, he managed to break it! Well, not really break it - just knocked the split rail out of its hole, and I had to replace it while he was digging through the cache. There were some muggles having a campfire in the drizzle across the driveway, but they didn't pay any attention to us. Thanks for putting the cache out and bringing us here!

This was 9/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr. Insanity, and the younger brother of another cacher (who we'll call "B") went to pick up a bunch of AGT caches. We got a late start on the day, and ended up being out until 4:30am retrieving them, got soaked in the process, but had a great time and decided to check out some of the different sights in the region, as well as use up a box of pixie sticks and half a bag of Willie Wonka candy. It was a trip!
This one was found by B, but not quite the way you're supposed to. There were several places at ground zero that fit the hint, but he went to the right one, and the right part of it even. No luck though. While we were looking, someone named Ethan stopped over, and when we told him what we were doing, he said we were in the right place. When we told him we didn't find it, he looked, and said it wasn't where it was supposed to be - it was in the right...location...but not the right part of it, and hidden differently than it was supposed to. So B made the find in an unusual way. Cache was in good shape - Ethan actually spent more time looking through it to see what was in it than we did. His mom (I think) yelled at him for helping us find it which we thought was funny, and then yelled at him again as he was returning to his house because he didn't hear her calling him. We spent most of the time laughing as we were leaving because of what she said. Thanks for bringing us here and showing us this area!

This was 10/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr. Insanity, and the younger brother of another cacher (who we'll call "B") went to pick up a bunch of AGT caches. It was a trip!
Thanks for bringing us here - we were looking for another AGT stamp, and managed to find it. It was starting to get dark as we entered, so we only took one flashlight, but we did just fine with it. It was interesting to check out the pipe bridge near the beginning, and all of the fire shutoff valves along the path early on. We followed the path in, and managed to pick the wrong way to go, which required a little bushwacking and a little swampwalking, but we did fine. When we got to ground zero, it took a little while to locate the cache due to a poor GPS signal in this area. Once we found it, it was in a really good hiding place. We got our stamp, and headed out. It was a much easier trip back out because we followed the correct trail on the way out. We checked out the fish hachery near the end, and then left. BVFDJR told me later that there were 3 teenagers on the other side of the creek back in where we were, and they followed us out, but he didn't want B to get scared, so he didn't say anything to the rest of us because they stayed back. I wasn't too worried - but I'm just like that. Thanks for the tour of the area and the AGT stamp!

We got a late start on the day, and ended up being out until 4:30am retrieving them, got soaked in the process, but had a great time and decided to check out some of the different sights in the region, as well as use up a box of pixie sticks and half a bag of Willie Wonka candy. It was a trip!
For this one, we parked near the road and headed up in, after making sure we had a bunch of flashlights. It was a rough climb, but it was a lot of fun - lots of rocks, lots of places to slip (like me, once), and lots of places to hide the cache. The hint helped, because it narrowed it down to a couple of possible places, but in the end, we found it without too much trouble. B got to do the stamps this time, since he had been asking, but usually after they were already done, and we put it back and headed out. This would have been a little easier in the day, but not that much easier, so it wasn't a bad choice for after it was dark. Thanks for bringing us here and for putting it out!

We got a late start on the day, and ended up being out until 4:30am retrieving them, got soaked in the process, but had a great time and decided to check out some of the different sights in the region, as well as use up a box of pixie sticks and half a bag of Willie Wonka candy. It was a trip!
This was one of the last ones we did, because we were getting tired, it was after midnight (even though I'm logging it as the day before, because I consider days to end when I go to bed - haha), and it was a relatively long hike for that time of the night. B doesn't like being in the woods too much at night, but did a very good job. We laughed most of the way in and out, thinking about the meaning of the name of this cache - not too hard to figure out where they were probably going with it. Found the cache easily, let B stamp the books, and headed out. Thanks for bringing us here and showing us the area. The nearby conservation camp was neat to look at the signs for even if we couldn't see much because it was late.

FireRef (Found it) GC169DV - AGT-Jefferson-Trailside Cache (2/2) by PAWINGERS
This was 13/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr.
I believe the intent of this cache was to get there from the trail, but we decided to go from the nearby dead-end road, since it was late and we didn't really feel like walking a mile down a trail. After turning around multiple times, and BVFDJR and I arguing a little over which way we should go since we couldn't drive down the trail itself, we ended up going down the dead end road, which is a lot longer than I would have expected. Getting in from here required a little more bushwacking than we expected from the cache description, but we figured that was just the way things go - BVFDJR always takes the hardest way possible to get to a cache. We went up and down a couple of small hills to get to where the cache was supposed to be, and managed to pass it, finding it when we turned around and looked at something which kind of was indicated by the hint. We were looking for something else on the trees, based on my interpretation of the hint, so I guess it would be my fault that we didn't spot it sooner. We found the cache, B got to stamp the books, and we headed back, helping each other over the small drainage ditches and up the slick hills from the rain. Thanks for bringing us here and showing us this area!

This was 14/14 caches that a group of us, including BVFDJR, Dr.
This was the last one of the day - we got there quite easily, but it required quite the drive (25-30 minutes) from the last one we did. I wanted to see what the hint was needed for. I thought we were going to be looking for a statue or something, considering what I saw on the overhead view and the hint, but it turned out to be much simpler than that. Dr. Insanity got the container open, we handled the stamps (on a nice flat picnic table, which is much easier than most of the places we did the stamps!), and started the trip home. We stopped at a nearby Sheetz to get some food and change some clothes because we were completely soaked, and then made the 2 hr trip back home. While traveling, we talked about going out Sunday and doing a couple more counties. Thanks for bringing us here and making this series which has shown me that there's a lot more to Pennsylvania than just the little corner I live in up near Erie.

FireRef (Found it) GCP82N - St Catharines Serenity Estates (1.5/1.5) by Goldsnoop-PA
This was 1/34 caches I did on a run down to Jefferson County to do some of the AGT Caches. I got about 11 of them done and finished out one more county. I'm hoping to finish the rest over the next couple of weeks.
This was supposed to be a quick stop on my way out - I figured it was a cemetery cache, so it couldn't take that long. Ended up on a dead end road, and found it after a few minutes, but seemed to take longer than I thought it would. Thanks for bringing me here - the statue in the entrance is really neat!

Another nice easy cache on my way... I always liked these containers. By this time, my feet were rather wet, because it was raining off and on, and the grass was soaked. This wasn't as bad as some of the later ones. Thanks for bringing me here and putting this out!

This was 3/34 caches I did on a run down to Jefferson County to do some of the AGT Caches. I got about 11 of them done and finished out one more county. I'm hoping to finish the rest over the next couple of weeks.
This was a quick easy find, but there were two problems. First, I parked at the wrong end of the area, and had to walk through the soaking wet grass to get to it, and then I had a heck of a time getting it out of its hiding place - probably took me 5 minutes, and I almost never have any trouble getting caches out of anywhere using nothing other than my hands. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting the cache out!

This was a cool one - reading the hint, I found it right away - probably never would have looked without reading the hint, because I was looking around the nearby tree before reading it. Nice container! Thanks for bringing me here and putting this out - well worth the stop!

This one was supposed to be a quick stop - but I went to where the coords were, and read the description, and realized I had to put in other coordinates to find the cache. It would probably be better to post the actual coordinates for the cache to the page, rather than the ones that are posted, because it almost seems like it should be listed as a multi, not as a traditional, based on what I had to do. I wasn't as upset as I could have been, but it takes time on my gps to put in coordinates, and I just wish I would have known that in advance. Thanks for putting this out - got the stamp, and moved on!

This was a quick find with a short walk through some wet grass, and when you consider my shoes were already soaked, it wasn't any kind of big deal. I got the cache quickly, squeezed my name on the log since the book was more than full - last page is completely packed - and then stamped my passport and moved on. Thanks for bringing me here and putting this cache out!

This was a pretty quick find, but almost a disaster. It has been raining most of the day (and it was probably only about 9:30 when I got here), and when I went around the bushes to find this one, I slipped and started down into the creek that was nearby - I only slipped about 6" down, but if I hadn't caught myself, I would have been completely soaked, only a little bit into my day of caching. I almost thought the cache was garbage, because of the way it was packaged, but it was well protected. Thanks for bringing me here and putting this out!

This was a quick find, once I figured out how to get down here. It took a minute to figure out where to look, but once I did, I found it without a problem. Thanks for bringing me down here. The nearby AGT cache comes with a pretty good story, but you'll have to read the log for that one. Nice area, cool lighthouse! Thanks for bringing me here and putting this one out!

Wow - this was one of the dumber moves of my life. Or at least of my geocaching career. I parked where it looked like the trail went back toward the cache, and changed from road (where I parked) to kind of a grassy 4x4 trail. I then started walking back toward the cache in mostly waist-deep grass. This wouldn't have been any kind of problem normally, but it had rained earlier, and the grass was soaked, and within a few minutes (and well before I got to the cache), I was soaked from the waist down also. I kind of gave up on trying to keep dry after a few minutes and just concentrated on getting to the cache. When I got there, it was a quick find, and then when I noticed that it was only a few feet off of a PAVED road (ok, gravel, but no waist-deep grass!), I was rather upset with myself for not investigating further. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting this cache out - I just need to be smarter when going for them!

This was a quick stop down a short road by a park. Originally I went to the wrong place...looked for a while, realized there wasn't anything there matching the description, and looked another before I found it quickly. I'm not sure what the hint was supposed to help with, unless you're a midget :) - Thanks for bringing me here and for putting the cache out. After a quick pit stop at the nearby temporary restroom facilities, I was on my way again!

Someone said the gps was bouncy in here - I would agree - the coordinates took me 4-5 places before I finally just used the hint and my geosense, and found it pretty quickly. Nice place - I always liked these springs. Never drank the water from them though - guess I prefer mine to have gone through a treatment plant. Thanks for bringing me here and putting the cache out.

I probably wouldn't have gone for this one if I hadn't seen the description and that it is put out by the owner - I always feel wierd going back into people's property like this. Cool "thing" that the cache is on - easy to find. Thanks for putting it out and for bringing me here!

This was actually an extra one, as I was going to get the AGT cache in this park, and was trying to figure out if there was a quicker easier way to get to it - well, when I saw what it looked like from this end, I decided that it probably wasn't such a great idea from here, and just decided to go back to the start of the trail. But while I was here, I noticed that there was a cache right by me - so I went and got it. Turns out there were a couple of fishing muggles right by where I was getting the cache, but they didn't seem to pay any attention to me, so I made the quick find and got out on my way to the next one. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting the cache out - very nice view from here!

This was one heck of a climb - I guess because I only had 4 hours sleep, and was still a little sore from reffing 9 basketball games and 2 soccer games over the weekend, my legs weren't all that enthusiastic about the climb. Add to that the wet shoes/feet from walking through grass that was recently rained on, and it was a really fun trip (don't drown in the sarcasm - haha). Found the cache without any problems - someone put a very large feather in this one - I left it in there, but avoided doing anything with it. Thanks for bringing me here and putting the cache out!

This was a nice location in the middle of a little field. If the grass weren't wet, and my feet weren't soaked, it would probably have been a really nice trip to and from the cache. Thanks for bringing me here, and for putting this cache here. I got my stamp, signed the log, and headed out to try to dry my feet out!

This was the 6th and final Forest County AGT cache I needed - It didn't look too bad walking in here, until I ended up reading the part about following the gas pipeline and had to head through the soaked waist-deep grass for a tenth of a mile. Ouch - it was wet - my shorts were soaked this time, as well as everything down through my shoes. There were a couple of little creeks to cross, caused by the rain. Once I was in the woods near the cache, it was much easier terrain (not that the grass was hard - just WET!) Cache was a quick find, got my stamp, signed the log, and headed back through the wet grass, and on to the next cache! Thanks for bringing me here and for putting the cache out!

This was supposed to be a quick stop because it seemed like it was supposed to be right off the road - I didn't read the description as well as I should have, and the GPS took me 50 feet or so away from where I finally found the cache. After reading the hint (after 20 minutes or so of hunting), I found it right away. Thanks for bringing me here - it was interesting reading some of the logs that people had written about the trail. I actually thought, based on the name, that when I found a stick wedged between a double trunk, with a large chunk of wood held up by it, that that was what I was looking for.

This was a reasonably quick find, after I got there. I'm not sure about the 1.5 star terrain rating - I would go 2.5 or so - it was not just a little hike or a little brush - it seemed like it was a pretty rough hike to the cache from the road. I didn't find any kind of trail when I was in there to find an easier way out, so I don't think I went in the wrong way. Thanks for bringing me here and putting this cache out.

Thanks for bringing me here. I had to laugh as I was driving away from this one, because I drove by a basketball court and saw kids that reminded me of inner city skaters - guess they're the same city or rural - haha. This was a little awkward because there was a female muggle sitting under the nearby picnic shelter - I walked over, looking as if I was searching for something, and found it without too much trouble. Logged the find, and then headed over to find the second one in the park. I realized that there was parking much closer, so I headed back to my car to drive down there. When I got there, there were construction workers right around ground zero, so I didn't even bother to hunt for it. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting the cache out!

This one was cool - I haven't seen one of these in a long time, and certainly not one of this type since its not American. It was funny going in there - I spent about a minute, knowing what I was looking for but having to find the hiding place. Got it out, returned to my car to sign it, and for the first time, had trouble getting the log out of the container. I had to use tweezers. Got the log signed, returned it to the container, and then placed it back where it came from. Thanks for bringing me here - cool place to put a cache!

This was supposed to be a quick and easy one, based on what information I had. The terrain wasn't supposed to be too bad. I guess between having soaked shoes and feet, and having to bushwack a little, it wasn't the most fun cache I've done. I also almost clunked my head coming away from it. Nice, well sealed container. It was pretty much empty however - might need some restocking, and I didn't have anything with me to help out. Thanks for bringing me here!

Wow... ok, this was responsible for most of the scrapes and scratches on my legs that I ended up with after this cache run. There were thorns EVERYWHERE, and only a short trail to start with - everything else was bushwacking. There were two short powerline cuts, which weren't too bad, but they still had the dang thorns. Thanks for bringing me back here - good location for a cache, and if I had worn jeans instead of shorts, I would probably have been a lot less scratched! One more AGT cache!

Thanks for bringing me here. This was a cool cache! I wonder why they put the wooden thing on the top, which looks like people could walk around on there, but there is no way to get up there without climbing. No luck there - I wouldn't even try that! I did go up the hill to read the history, and thought the way the name worked out was funny. Then I went after the cache. When I found it, I got my stamp, signed the log, and decided that this was the end of what I was going to work on today. I started to head home after changing my socks and shoes to get my feet to start drying out after this very wet day of caching. Thanks for bringing me here and for putting the cache out!

Once I was in the woods near the cache, it was much easier terrain (not that the grass was hard - just WET!) I actually saw this one when I was driving up to it before I even got out of the car. Thanks for bringing me here - I always wondered what these stores are similar to in my area. Thanks for the cache!

Thanks for bringing me here and putting the cache out. Just as I was figuring out where to go next, a carload of people from the local clinic pulled in behind me - appeared to be a bunch of the workers coming back from lunch. I like these simple park and grabs when I'm trying to bolster my numbers. Thanks for the cache!

Thanks for bringing me here - I started on the wrong level, and had to move my car to a better location. Found stage one with no trouble, but had a little trouble with stage two. The reason was it was just a little too much wandering and a little too little checking the gps. Once found, it was a pretty nice cache. Thanks for bringing me here. Wow... ok, this was responsible for most of the scrapes and scratches on my legs that I ended up with after this cache run.

FireRef (Found it) GC1R1R8 - Tennis Anyone? (1/1.5) by conneautcachers
I went on a cache run today to try to get to 1600, which I did, and try out caching on my scooter (Honda Elite 80cc) - managed to break part of the scooter (the air filter box fell off, rubbed against my rear tire for probably 10-15 miles before I noticed it, then I removed it completely for the 50 mile or so ride home). Definitely a great trip, even with the little problems associated with it.
I stopped to find this one on my way through the area on my way to Ashtabula to start the run. It was a quick find, and shares most of a name with one of my other caches. I had a cache in Allegany State Park in New York for several years called "Tennis Anyone? How about baseball?" because it was near courts/fields for those sports. This was #1591. Thanks for bringing me here. I looked in about 10 different places before I saw the container (considering the size, I don't know how I missed it the first 9 times!), and then had trouble getting it out of its hiding place. I had tried for this one several times earlier today, and every time, there were workers nearby. I wonder if they found and removed the cache. I searched for about 15 minutes, and found what looked like a perfect spot, but it wasn't there. I see why the cache was named this - seems like someone from the cemetery could have painted over the wording on the doors to the building out of respect...maybe they will sometime. #1595. Wow - I couldn't believe how much work it took to get here - 2/10 of a mile of 10' tall grass that was growing like (and the diameter of) corn, a 3/10 of a mile swamp with water between ankle and calf deep, and a mess of mayflies all over the place that couldn't find anywhere better to land than on me. Dang! This would have been my #1600, if I had been able to find it! I spent about 20 minutes looking on both sides of the trail (having no clue which side starboard was and not wanting to take the time to search online for it), and found not one stump in sight within 10-15 feet of the trail. One side was a lot clearer than the other, and the less clear side kept sending me out with vines attached to my shoes every time I left, but I still had no luck. Thanks for bringing me here, even if I didn't have any luck finding the cache. I did notice after this one that there was something weird with the back end of my scooter - I think the tail lights were damaged by the swing on my porch where I park it. Oh well - on to get some oil (because I also noticed that was a little low), and then to find #1600! Sorry it couldn't have been your cache!

This was it - #1600! Woo hoo! Took a little walking to get to it, but that's ok - I don't mind that. Also looked in the wrong place for a while, but managed to check the GPS after not too long and realized I was on the wrong side of the trail. #1603. This one had a funny approach. When I went back to the parking area, there was an open dirt road running parallel to the trail. I decided to chance it with my scooter, and managed to have no trouble driving to within about 100 feet of the cache. I walked over, claimed it, and hoped that the trail would lead me to a few more - no such luck. It dead ended (at a pond!!) and the next road. Thanks for bringing me here. When I pulled into the apron for the entrance, I noticed a rubbing noise coming from my rear end. (the bike, not me... haha). I checked it out and found that the box that houses the air filter was hanging down, with some screws obviously missing, and had been rubbing against my rear tire for a while - to the point there was a big hole in the box where it rubbed. I went and claimed the cache (obvious - well stocked - definitely worth the trip here!), and then came back to figure out what to do with my bike. I tucked the air filter box up inside best I could, and decided to call it a day and head home, as I had a nearly 2 hour ride without going on the highways (my scooter only goes 45 average - rough for interstates so I stay off). About 3 miles from here, the box was hanging out of the bike, so I just removed it and spent the rest of the trip with it between my feet on the running deck of the scooter. Got home with no further problems (except for having to get the bike worked on) - thanks for bringing me here - I hope to finish the run I set up sometime in the next couple of days, probably using my SUV.

The other recent logs helped with the find because I followed the hint and it wasn't quite right - the owner might want to change that. Thanks for the cache!

This was #1591. Thanks for bringing me here. I went around and around looking for this one, because of the clue, but once I read a few previous logs, I made the find right away. I took my little scooter past the closed gate and was a little worried when a truck pulled in to the outer lot while I was back there (I stayed on the roads), but he left without any contact. Thanks for bringing me here!

This was #1591. Thanks for bringing me here. I looked in about 10 different places before I saw the container (considering the size, I don't know how I missed it the first 9 times!), and then had trouble getting it out of its hiding place. Everything is in good shape. I was actually coming here out of order, because the Gates of Hell had a gator full of workers stop right next to it and start doing some landscaping. TFTC! Back to the cemetery...

#1592. This was a quick and easy find - I was going to try for the Gates of Hell again, as I did about 15 minutes back, but there were still cemetery workers sitting around there doing some landscaping. This was a quick find however. Thanks for bringing me here - now, off to try for Gates of Hell for the Third time!

Thanks for bringing me here, even if I only got one of the two caches that were available.

I was surprised that I couldn't find this one. First, it seemed like an obvious common type, but it wasn't there. Then I tried the other hardware nearby, and had no luck on, under, or around any of those. Hopefully it is still there, and I just missed it. Oh well - on to the next cache!

#1603. This one had a funny approach. When I went back to the parking area, there was an open dirt road running parallel to the trail. I decided to chance it with my scooter, and managed to have no trouble driving to within about 100 feet of the cache.

He did several night caches on the other trip, but was more along for the ride than anything else. We came down to check this one out because it was supposed to be a decent length one. I did several others on the trail close to this one before, but didn't realize this until I loaded up my GPS for the trip.
We headed out, and made our way through the woods following markers. No problem getting there, no problem finding the cache...well, maybe... BVFDJR said he couldn't believe how obvious it was, and ... well, I won't go into any more details, but he was actually surprised by what he found. Also, on a side note, BVFDJR learned it isn't the greatest idea to do a u-turn in the middle of a road unless you can see clearly in both directions - we started the turn, and were halfway across the road when someone came up over the nearby hill - no clue how we didn't see the headlights - it wasn't close to an accident, but BVFDJR got a nice lesson in his learners permit days on what works and what doesn't - haha.

Wow... this was one of those caches where it says "stay on the trail" and you were supposed to do so. We didn't do a very good job of this. We walked in a 10th of a mile or so, and realized the cache was off to the right. We thought about it for a minute or so, because it seemed like there was a trail going straight and one going right. Well, the one going right ends in a swamp, which we ended up going through for the next 20 minutes or so. This was interesting - BVFDJR and I had done a cache near Cleveland which required wandering through large grass...oh wait, we weren't required to go that way, we just did. Rule #1 of caching with BVFDJR is don't follow him - he always picks the hardest route possible! We came out of the swamp and found a small trail, and managed to find the cache a minute or two later. Once we found it, it was a quick and easy walk out of the woods, with soaked shoes and feet, and back to the entrance. We stopped on the way to check out the rusting machine near the entrance which must have been there for when the place was a dump. Thanks for bringing us to this area - we left with a good story!

This was one of several caches that BVFDJR, his girlfriend, Dr. Insanity (new cacher), and myself found on a short cache run. Thanks for putting them out!
This took a little longer than we thought, and was our first stop of the day. Dr. Insanity spotted it, but that was after some climbing, and wandering through the likely area the cache could be in. Thanks for bringing us here.

I had been here before, and found this to be one of the best caches I have ever found in terms of creativity. It took me a while to find it the first time. I brought the kids with me to show them a creative cache hide. It only took BVFDJR a few minutes to figure out what was out of place, and get to the cache. Thanks for putting this out - made for a really cool place to stop again!

This was interesting, because we had problems finding the trail to get into this area. We drove around the entire outside of it before we decided to park somewhere and just bushwack our way into the area. We did this without too much trouble, and then managed to find the cache without too much trouble either. Some of us ended up following the path out, while BVFDJR met us with the car at the end of the trail - he was more than willing to bushwack his way back to the car. I referee on the soccer fields near here several times a year. Thanks for bringing us here!

I had solved the puzzle before for this one, and had been in the area searching for the final when it apparently wasn't there. While trying to follow the clues for the Mead Park Tour, we ended up in this area because we couldn't find stage three of that one, and I recognized the area from searching before. BVFDJR made the find quickly, and we signed the log. Originally I thought it was from the other cache, until I read the descriptions of the container, because it definitely needs replaced. Thanks for bringing us here!

This couldn't have been much easier. I was reading the description as BVFDJR managed to walk up to it and find the log without any problems. I was mid sentence when he handed it to me - haha. Thanks for bringing us here, and showing us a cache which can't be much more out in the open obvious.

Wow... this was one of those caches where it says "stay on the trail" and you were supposed to do so.

We decided to stop and get something to eat at a nearby eating establishment after doing Hare Creek - as soon as we were done, we decided to pick up 2-3 more caches and then head home. This one, I had done before, so I am just logging that Dr. Insanity and BVFDJR found it. Quick and easy, after a little bit of hunting around in the trees that had fallen in the area. Thanks for bringing us here.

This was the last one of the day for us - we spent a short time walking up the trail, finding the cache, and then heading back to the car to head home. After a few hours of caching, including navigating the swamp at Hare Creek, we decided we were just too tired to keep going. We did spot one deer jaw on the trail, which we thought was pretty cool (except for BVFDJR's girlfriend...haha). Thanks for bringing us here - looks like it will be a pretty nice trail in the future.

Logging way late... I did this back at the end of May with FFKid and Rob13193. We had a great time at the museum, checked out a little of the Subway cache which we had done before, so we only went a little way in, and swung through Niagara Falls on the way home. Thanks for putting this close enough for me to go to a second time!
Not changing the log date, because I didn't want to mess up my numbers/counts before this, but did want credit for it. Thanks!

We decided to stop in this park because there were a number of caches close by, and BVFDJR likes to hunt the ones with harder terrain, and since a few qualified, it made sense to do this. Thanks for bringing us here. When we first started walking to find this one, we walked up and looked at the pond. FFKid said he'd jump in the water for $10, and we both said yeah, right. So BVFDJR and I grabbed him from behind and acted like we were going to throw him in! We found the cache pretty quickly - seemed like there was a code on the lid, which we wrote down, but never found out what to do with it. Thanks for the cache!

We hunted for quite a while, all up and down and over the hillside, bridge, steps, etc. After probably 15 minutes, BVFDJR and FFKid asked for the GPS to wander a little following the arrow. After 30 seconds or so, they started walking deeper into the park, and well away from where the GPS had taken us. Turns out they had found the cache, signed for everyone, and were moving on - it is a common prank they play on me - see if they can get the cache found and signed and returned to its hiding place before I can find it and without me noticing that they have it and are working on it. We decided to stop in this park because there were a number of caches close by, and BVFDJR likes to hunt the ones with harder terrain, and since a few qualified, it made sense to do this. Thanks for bringing us here. We did this one while still working on the night cache in the area, which is another good story, but I'll type that one out on that cache page. We came down the hard way, not realizing until we were close that there was a trail which brought us a lot closer than we thought with a lot less bushwacking. We found the proper location for the cache, but spent a while figuring out how to get to it. We finally ended up with a bit of a human pyramid to get to where the cache was located, get the log signed, and then get it back to where it was supposed to be. FFKid ended up with some pretty good scratches on his legs from what we did, and I'm sure BVFDJR's back was a little sore. Thanks for the fun and the cache!

(Continued from the "found" log above... I've never written a log entry so long I had to split it up before...wow! - But it was worth it!)
Stage 4 - now here's a story. As we approached the location where the stage was supposed to be, FFKid stopped dead and pointed out a spider on the tree we needed to look at. It probably had a 4-5" legspan, and was definitely a real, live spider, just over head-high. He wouldn't even go up and take a look at the tree - he just walked around 10 feet or so away, and started looking through the area, while keeping at least one eye on that spider at all times. BVFDJR wasn't much better, but wasn't as scared. I walked over, being the big, non-scared person I am (haha - just more in this case, I guess, than normal), and looked around until I saw what I figured was the stage. I poked at it with a stick and realized what it was - so I told BVFDJR (knowing FFKid wouldn't come close at all) to come over and grab it, or at least hold the flashlight while I got it out. He retrieved the container, such as it is, and we got the info we needed. All of a sudden, he threw it back into its hiding place quickly, yelled, jumped up, and ran back. Apparently it was completely covered with live spiders! I didn't notice them when I was looking at it, but he assured me that it was, and since he was holding it, I took his word for it. Through all this time, the big spider on the tree never moved - I guess we weren't dinner tonight - haha.
We now had the final code, but weren't sure what to do with it - some suggestion was made that we might have to come back a different day, but we decided we would still try to find the final and see if we could figure out what it meant. We found the final without any difficulty, and spent a few minutes determining what we needed to do - I don't want to give this part away. We discovered a few TB's and I dropped one in there that I have had for a few weeks. We decided this was one of the coolest, and scariest, caches that we have done. It took about an hour and 45 minutes, and we were moving along pretty good, but it was well worth it. I fell once, slipping on the muddy ground - BVFDJR fell once, getting stuck in a tree, and FFKid fell once, landing in a thorn bush, but all in all, it was well worth the two hour trip to come down here. Thanks!

FireRef (Found it) GC1H198 - Nyctohylophobia (2/3) by hellifiknow
This was one of a dozen caches that BVFDJR and FFKid did with me on a cache run to go find a 2.5 mile night cache south of Cleveland, and this was that cache. This should be a long entry, because a bunch of really funny things happened along the way. Lets start with stopping in the parking lot and finding a parking place - no problem there, but while we were loading up a backpack with water bottles and getting ready to go, a lady pulled up and asked if everything was ok. I said yes, and asked if everything was ok with her. She said she was just wondering what we were doing there. I told her I understood the park was open until 11, and asked if she knew what Geocaching was. She didn't, and when I explained it as treasure hunting, she said ok, just wondered what we were doing there, and went on her way.
The next thing was trying to keep BVFDJR and FFKid from trying to ride the two golf carts that were parked nearby - haha. We headed into the woods, found the start of the trail we were supposed to, and then started following reflectors. Within the first couple of minutes, FFKid spotted a skunk "running" toward him down the trail, stopped, backed up into BVFDJR, who saw the skunk and panicked, and started to run into me to get away from it! I tried to calm him down, and the skunk went on its merry way without bothering us - I tried explaining to him that they don't usually bother you if you don't bother them, but he still was pretty worried. It was kind of funny, because I've only seen him scared one other time...well and one more later tonight, but I'll get to that!
The first step went off without a hitch. It was funny how the caches played on the idea of fear and what kinds of things people are afraid of. The two with me jumped a little at stage one based on what they found, but it wasn't too bad. We didn't know what to collect informationwise from this, so we wrote down the obvious things and moved on. We did have some trouble following the markers, but mainly that seemed to be because we were occasionally seeing ones from other parts of the trail, so we stayed on the trail and had no problems.
Stage 2 went off without a hitch. Stage 3 also, although both of the kids with me got scared by what they found, a little. I knew what it was without any trouble, but still - it was a little wierd. The only problems we had with either of these stages was the presence of a number of deer, some of whom decided to hang out right by where the stages were. BVFDJR was a little scared of the possibility of a buck being in the area and charging - I never heard of this before, but he assured me that would be bad. No buck ever showed up, so I guess we were safe - haha.

Thanks!

After spending the last hour and 45 minutes searching for, and finding, the nearby night cache, FFKid, BVFDJR, and I realized that we missed this one on the way in. So we headed back to find it. This was a quick find, after a long walk, and we logged it and headed out to find something to eat and head home. Thanks for bringing us here and giving us some extra caches to hunt while on the long hike for the big night one.

BVFDJR, FFKid, and I went on a cache run to the Cleveland area today, and we decided to make it, for the most part, very difficult terrain caches, since those are the kind that BVFDJR likes, and it was his run to 300, which we got. Thanks for putting all of them out.
This one was actually on the way to the "Rage" cache nearby, and when we saw we were closer to this one, decided to make a stop here. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. The nearby Rage cache was listed as a 4.5 terrain, so that was the one we were trying for. We parked in the parking lot near the parking coordinates, and started to walk in. We got in about a tenth of a mile when we encountered 8-10' high grass. Well, considering the description of the other cache and the terrain level, we decided to go through the grass, since we figured that it had to be hard terrain. So we started working our way into the grass. This was our first mistake. BVFDJR was out in front, bushwacking his way through the grass and blazing the trail, with FFKid behind him and me bringing up the rear with the GPS, pointing BVFDJR in the right direction. BVFDJR fell a few times because it was so thick - he told me to make sure to put in the log that it should have been a terrain of 5, because you need specialized equipment - a machette! We probably got .01 (yes, .01, not 0.1) miles every few minutes - it was slow going, and there was bird poop EVERYWHERE! I managed to step on FFKid's shoe and remove it, but we got it back on without him having to step on the ground. After about .05 miles in here, we stopped to gather our thoughts and figure out what we were going to do. BVFDJR and I hoisted FFKid up as high as we could get him, and he still couldn't see over the grass. We tried a second time, and then FFKid and I hoisted BVFDJR up. He was able to pick out a tree off in the distance in the general direction of the other cache, and so we headed that way to get a better look around. FFKid climbed probably 20 feet up the tree we found, and BVFDJR climbed about 10. They took a decent look around, and we started working our way down the line of trees that we were able to see. It got to the point where we were starting to get frustrated, and BVFDJR started going away from the cache and the car just to find a way out of the grass. When we finally cleared the grass, we had been in there for about 40 minutes, and came out covered in bird poop. It was pretty cool when we came out, because the ground was dried and cracked dirt, and we were just happy to be able to see around us, not have to push our way everywhere, and not get more bird poop on us! I could see on the GPS that there was another cache (this one) closer to us than the one we were hunting, so we headed toward this one instead. Everything else to get to the rocks was pretty easy, since we stuck to a small trail when we cleared the big flat area. It took a few minutes of crawling around on the rocks to find this one, but when we did, it was in good shape. Thanks for bringing us here, and giving us one heck of a story to tell!

Wow... had we realized what kind of terrain this would have been if we had gone the way we were "supposed to", it would have been a heck of a lot easier - but we wouldn't have gotten the good story, and had as much fun, and needed to look for a laundromat - haha - we did bring changes of clothes - well, BVFDJR and I did... haha. Thanks for the adventure, although I doubt it was the one you intended, it was definitely worth the trip!

BVFDJR managed to drop the cache in the water almost immediately after he found it! Whoops! So FFKid came back up, and went to find a stick, and BVFDJR used that to fish the cache out of the water - it had dropped down 2-3 feet from rock level and he was lucky he could get it. We got the cache up to the top, checked out the contents (which were dry and in good shape), and did some trading. We then returned the cache to its hiding place, and headed back toward the docks. By the way, BVFDJR seems to think he saw the missing cell phone from a previoud log floating in the water near where the cache fell in - he couldn't retrieve it, however. Continued below...

After doing the nearby 2 caches with somewhat hard terrains (and you REALLY need to read my logs for those - we turned hard terrain into NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE terrain...), we stopped by this one on the way out of the marina. It was a short hike on the trails to get to where it was supposed to be, and we found it after a minute or two of searching. There was some kind of joke about BVFDJR and FFKid getting married (they're both guys...it was a joke!), and we moved on to the next cache. Thanks for bringing us here!

This was a quick find for me, but the lid was missing and the contents were wet. The owner probably needs to replace the container, or at least the lid. This was a quick stop, because we were getting tired of fighting the Mayflies that were everywhere. Not that they did anything bad - they just seemed to settle on us, and go for a ride as we walked around. Every time we got in the car, we had to make sure we didn't take a bunch of passengers with us. Thanks for bringing us here!

We stopped here to pick up a bunch of these before we looked for something to eat, since there were a bunch together. This one was simple, once I found the right hiding spot. I thought it was funny that someone left a beer can on the memorial - I assumed it was some kind of personal memorial, so I left it there. BVFDJR was scared of the police, because we just stopped on the side of the road and had seen a lot of them around, and didn't like sitting on the side of the road. From here, we moved on to the next one in the park. Thanks for bringing us here!

Once again, a quick, easy find in a park full of these. It was nice to get out into the sunshine after the hour or so we spent hacking through 10 foot tall grass earlier today. This was the last quick find in a park full of quick finds. This one we found on our way out, and I had to have BVFDJR stop pretty quickly because he wasn't paying attention to my directions. This was one we picked up on the way through the area looking for a hard terrain one in another park of this park. This was one of three in the part of the park that we needed to go to get a high terrain one, which are the kind BVFDJR likes. Before heading into the woods, we stocked up on water, and then FFKid decided to make a quick pit stop at the nearby (well, not quite so near) portapotty. I decided to mess with him a little by hitting the side of it while he was in there, but my timing was off - he was already on his way out, and I managed to run into the side of it with my shin before hitting the side with my hand, and ended up with a nice bruise on my shin for the rest of the day.
As for the cache, we went into the woods, and spent about 15 minutes looking for it. Turns out this was one of BVFDJR and FFKid's opportunities to mess with me. They like to find the cache while I'm looking, get it open, sign the log, and return it to its hiding place, and then watch me wander around and eventually give up before they tell me about it. They did it pretty well this time, but I am starting to notice the signals, like one of them wandering off for a little while way away from where the GPS says the cache is. I actually gave up on this one before they told me they found it. They got me good. 2 more in these woods - on to the next one!

This one was a long hike to get to, with the terrain not being quite as bad as we thought it would be - we were tired of bushwacking because of caches that we did earlier. We had a little trouble getting through the trees, but not as bad as we thought. When we finally got to the area, we probably hunted for 15-20 minutes before FFKid pretty much stepped on it and was surprised at how we didn't manage to find it before. He also made some comment about "When...where...and..." which I didn't quite catch but BVFDJR found hysterical. Thanks for bringing us here - Terrain didn't seem as bad as it was supposed to be, but after what we did earlier, short of climbing a mountain, I think we're going to have trouble finding "challenging" terrain. It was worth the trip however. Thanks!

This was definitely not a terrain of 2 the way we did it. We came from Hell's Swamp, and that makes it more like a 3.5 or 4, depending on how you want to look at it. It was a long hike through very low tree cover, and the occasional thorn. It probably didn't help that both kids took their shirts off because they were warm, and continued bushwacking without them on - I left mine on to keep from getting scratched up beyond belief. When we did finally get to where the cache was, I could see how it could be a terrain of 2 if you went at it from where we parked, rather than doing a circuit through the woods picking up the other caches along the way. Thanks for bringing us here. By this time, we were hot, tired, and thirsty (even though we drank lots of water) and sick of the Mayflies which seemed to be covering us. We had finished the caches in this park, so we headed out. BVFDJR wanted to know how close he was to 300, so I did some quick figuring in the car (through GSAK, since they don't often log their caches, I track them for them), and found we needed 2 more for him to hit 300. We headed for the nearest 4 star difficulty, but more in that log. Thanks for bringing us here!

This was BVFDJR's 299th cache. We decided we would come back here swimming later, and we did, after we went looking for his 300th and a few others along the bank. Thanks for bringing us here. I'll post the picture shortly, and email the answers to the address. It was definitely a cool place - especially with the pool. When we came back, we all swam in the swimming hole, BVFDJR and FFKid managed to jump in from the bank once before the local security nicely told them that they could swim but not jump, and they collected a bunch of beach glass for FFKid's mom. This was well worth the trip - it was almost like Wintergreen Gorge where we live, with some swimming holes and a cool creek to mess around in. Thanks for bringing us here!
Also, just a thought - if you plan to swim, its a good idea to bring spare clothes. I brought most of a full set, BVFDJR brought most of a full set, and FFKid brought.... nothing. So it was a damp ride back home, along with the other stops we made.

This was BVFDJR's 300th cache - it wasn't as difficult as it was made out to be - he is a hard terrain type person, and was excited about the high terrain rating, but a little disappointed when we got here. But then again, for some people, it might be harder to walk up and down the creek. We got here, did our measurements as best we could - I'll be posting the pictures soon and emailing the information. Thanks for bringing us here. From here, we went up the creek probably a half mile, seeing how much we could get each other wet without falling in. Also, we saw a really cool sewage pipe that goes over the creek - it looks like something out of a video game with the barbed and razor wire around it to keep people from going out on it. Thanks for bringing us to this area!

This was a DNF for us, but mainly because even with the hint, we managed to stir up a bees nest before we found the cache. We figured it would be a good idea to get out of the area, so we didn't get stung. Immediately past the area of the cache was what looked like a shallow swimming hole with a large waterfall that we decided to climb up and see what was at the top. It reminded me of the "stink pit" area in Xbox 360's Skate 2 video game. We climbed all the way to the top, went through the pipe, and then headed back down another way to get back down the creek. From here, we went down the creek to the first earthcache we did, and spent some time swimming and jumping in the water. From here, we headed to downtown Cleveland, rode the subway (which none of us had done before in Cleveland... BVFDJR had in New York, and I had in DC.), went downtown to Tower City, checked out the mall, got some food, rode around on the subway a little longer, and then headed back to the car to head home. It was a fun day - BVFDJR got his 300th cache at the last one we found, we got to check out some places they hadn't seen before, and do some things none of us had done before. Thanks for bringing us into this area. The picture is the other two people in our group climbing the waterfall we all went up.

Continued from above...
Wow... had we realized what kind of terrain this would have been if we had gone the way we were "supposed to", it would have been a heck of a lot easier - but we wouldn't have gotten the good story, and had as much fun, and needed to look for a laundromat - haha - we did bring changes of clothes - well, BVFDJR and I did... haha. Thanks for the adventure, although I doubt it was the one you intended, it was definitely worth the trip!

BVFDJR, FFKid, and I went on a cache run to the Cleveland area today, and we decided to make it, for the most part, very difficult terrain caches, since those are the kind that BVFDJR likes, and it was his run to 300, which we got. Thanks for putting all of them out.
This cache was listed as a 4.5 terrain, so that was what brought us here. We parked in the parking lot near the parking coordinates, and started to walk in. We got in about a tenth of a mile when we encountered 8-10' high grass. Well, considering the description of the this cache and the terrain level, we decided to go through the grass, since we figured that it had to be hard terrain. I could see on the GPS that there was another cache closer to us than this one, so we headed toward that one first. Everything else to get to the rocks was pretty easy, since we stuck to a small trail when we cleared the big flat area. It took a few minutes of crawling around on the rocks to find the other one, and then we started heading toward this one. We got to the right area, and based on the name, the two kids went right down into the rocks and found the cache without any trouble. Well, almost no trouble....

This was a quick find in a park with a bunch of quick finds. We went walking through here looking for a few caches before we found something to eat. BVFDJR overshot the cache and I found quickly. Thanks for bringing us here and giving us some nice easy smileys.

Once again, a quick, easy find in a park full of these. It was nice to get out into the sunshine after the hour or so we spent hacking through 10 foot tall grass earlier today. We looked for the easy ones in this park, then headed off to the nearest BK to get something to eat. Thanks for bringing us here!

This was the last quick find in a park full of quick finds. This one we found on our way out, and I had to have BVFDJR stop pretty quickly because he wasn't paying attention to my directions. Once we did stop, I hopped out, and found it right away. It was an interesting container - a cache within a cache. Thanks for bringing us to this park and putting all of these out. On to lunch!

This was one we picked up on the way through the area looking for a hard terrain one in another park of this park. This was a quick find - FFKid ended up getting jabbed someplace uncomfortable when walking through the woods, but that was the only event which made this cache eventful - everything else was nice and simple, then on to the next one. Thanks for bringing us here!
